DRDO set up 8 technology centres for research on Military Applications
The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has established eight cutting-edge technology centers to conduct research into futuristic military applications. The centers will help universities to undertake research on new technologies in niches for military use.
- DRDO aims to create an infrastructure conducive to the development of futuristic military weapons.
- He formed a committee chaired by Professor V Ramagopal Rao, Director of IIT Delhi, to suggest new measures to improve the efficiency of DRDO laboratories in India. The main objective is to stimulate national defense production.
- This decision comes as the Indian government intends to focus on India’s autonomy in defense manufacturing.
- Currently, DRDO has more than 50 laboratories in India which are engaged in the development of defense technologies covering disciplines such as aeronautics, combat vehicles, engineering systems, armaments, missiles, computing advanced and naval systems.
